What Kind Of Scotland?

Hey everyone A poem for St Andrew’s Day which I hope challenges all my political friends regardless of party loyalties or their voting intentions in the coming referendum. I have titled it What Kind Of Scotland? I hope you enjoy the read.

What Kind Of Scotland?

Is the Scotland you see in the morning the same one you see at weekends
a land where a stranger feels welcome or do you like small groups of friends
do the colours you wear help define you
do you think of the world as your kin
and see if you left would our land be bereft
do you think we would let you back in

Is the Scotland you see in the clear light of day
a land where the people are kind
or does prejudice rule in our nation
does it show up a strict narrow mind
are we liberal in the way we view others
does it show up conservative traits
will it take a chance now to cry freedom
or decide that decisions can wait

Is the Scotland you see in the evening a place filled with beauty and mystery
or are parts of your Scotland so dull and rundown
we need to consign them to history
Is the darkness a blanket of comfort
or a dangerous cloak of despair
do you see a vision for the land you call home
or nation where nobody cares

Is the Scotland you see when your dreaming
a land where the people are proud
or do you see restless natives
still trying to escape the storm clouds I know when I wake I view Scotland with hope
I believe what our people can do we’ve decisions to make on the road we should take
so what will the choice be for you?
