What Have You Done To My World?

Hey everyone In keeping with recent tradition today’s offering is a poem. This one is dedicated to all who attend my local parish church Baillieston St Andrews and in particular our minister the reverend Roy Tuton who inspired me to write it. I have titled it What Have You Done To My World?. Its kind of based on the idea that God gets his chance talk to the people on TV, the ultimate in reality TV dontcha know. However the real inspiration comes from the opening verse of Psalm 24 The world is the Lord’s and everything in it. All the people who live in it belong to him.

What Have You Done To My World?

You’ve polluted the air the sea and skies
your lips have told a million lies
you’ve shredded the forrest to a tenth of its size
what have you done to my world?

You’ve started wars and in my name
a million victories you have claimed
I don’t believe in your weapons of pain
what have you done to my world?

It seems that fame is all you need
relentless in your quest for greed you don’t care for others and it makes my heart bleed
what have you done to my world?

When poverty hunger and disease
play the second fiddle to tabloid TV
I weep tears you’ll never see
what have you done to my world?

The world took me just six days to create
I gave you a day to celebrate
and all you can do is peddle your hate
what have you done to my world?

But I have a plan to improve your lot
Catalan Spaniard English Scot
I know your talents I know what you’ve got
I’ll help you improve your world

Just read the word you know so well
I’ll rescue you from your personal hell
are you listening? time will tell
If you are it will get better

What will get better I hear you say
your life I reply with the dawn of each day
you answered the call when I showed you the way
I know what you’ll do for my world.
