They Followed The Star Till They Got To The Bairn & Then Made Their Own Way Home

Hey everyone Happy National Poetry Day I’ve written this poem to perform at the Federation of Writers event on the theme on the day which is stars
Can’t help but think it may be more appropriate at our Christmas gathering which our events team co-ordinator Mark Sherland likes to call
Seasonal Tales Round A Victorian Fireside. I’ve titled it They Followed The Star Till They Got To The Bairn & Then Made Their Own Way Home. I know that its early for Christmas but at least its on the theme.

They Followed The Star Till They Got To The Bairn & Then Made Their Own Way Home

The stars in the night sky
shone brightly that eve
as Shepard’s watched over their flock.
now three of the wisest they followed the sign
& went for a bit of a walk
they all bought some presents & took them along
as gifts for the new born wean
they had a wee word wae Mary & Joe
& went on their way home again

You see they knew what the bairn would do
& all for the sins of man
King Herard was raging on news of the birth
so he thought he’d up come wae a plan
it was him who had told them to go find the child
then come back & tell me where he’s from
but shepherds were smart
they had plans of their own
& they mapped out a safer route home
