I’m Part Of A Team Not Team GB

Hey everyone. A poem concerning the development & in my opinion the deliberate abuse of a particular word. The word is team& Its grammatical misuse in everything from sport to game shows & even the Eurovision song contest is getting on my nerves. So I’ve written this light hearted if topical rant to demonstrate my displeasure at this behaviour in the media. However this is not a slur on the Olympics or any of the British team taking part whom I hope achieve the best results they can in their particular events. If you see that I have said British team rather than the hideously corporate Team GB I think you’ll see where I’m coming from.

I’m Part Of A Team Not Team GB

I’m part of a team not team GB
I don’t do Olympic flames
I’m part of a not a team GB
I really hate that bloody name
Its far to corporate far too smug
Its far to bourgeoisie
I refuse to be wrapped in union jack crap
I’m part of a team not team GB

I’m part of a team not team GB
you don’t put team before the nation
I’m part of a team not team GB
Its just ego masturbation
Its a bloody horrendous phrase
You hear it daily on TV
Team this team that team total pratt
I’m a part of a team not team GB

I’m part of a team not team GB
Sport comes second to so-called image
I’m part of a team not team GB
I don’t identify as British
Its an abuse of the English language
Imported by the BBC
From their friends at Fox News Network
I’m part of a team not Team GB

I’m part of a team not team GB
Its just a PR marketing slogan
The slimy the slick the totally sick
You’d get more sense from Terry Wogan
From sports events to political causes
Team is the word you’ll hear & see
Team Dave team Ed team totally dead.
I’m part of a team not team GB

I’m part of a team not team GB
& as for Team Scotland the name leaves me cold
Though I’ll support the Scotland Team
It sounds more fearless & a lot more bold
I hope you understand my viewpoint
Its pretty clear for all to see
The name comes first & the team comes second
I’m part of a team not team GB

  1. I really love this poem Gayle, in part because I heard you deliver it yourself. It’s catchy & clever. It’s stayed with me and still brings a smile when I remember it.
