It Matters Not

Hey everyone. A poem in support of the right to equal marriage. This is despite what some people may claim a basic & fundamental human right in any nation which claims to a democratic society. The poem is titled It Matters Not & was written in the autumn of 2008. Equality in all its forms has always been a theme in my poetry & as a Transsexual woman this is a very important issue to me as it could have a very beneficial impact on my quality of life.

It Matters Not

Prejudice
Discrimination
Intolerance
& fear
the hand of hatred
hard at work
each day throughout the year
lack of reason
lack of thought
lack of respect for others
it matters not
who does what
under the duvet covers

But in their narrow twisted world
where bigotry kills the soul
sergeant major macho fist
is used to keep control
but through the sky
a rainbow breaks
with room for every colour
It matters not
who does what
under the duvet cover

@ Gayle Smith 2008.
