Funny Man

Hey Readers. On Day 3 of NaPoWriMo I pay my poetic tribute to Ronnie Corbett who died on Thursday aged 85. I have given the poem the title Funny Man I hope you enjoy the read.

Funny Man

A  man of the sweater
and the comfy arm chair
he would regale us with his Saturday night stories
the quiet half of the double act
he enjoyed a round of golf
and never needed to say sorry
for his language
for many he was a fixture of our youth
like Ant and Dec for the current generation
at a time when when the BBC still had a reputation worthy of the name
he and Ronnie Barker were at the height of their fame
his appearance on our TV screens
proof that he was seen
as an essential part of our teens
for those who grew up in the 70’s and 80’s
when the Two Ronnie’s replaced
Morecambe and Wise
as the must see show
when families spent time together
before heading out to wherever
the mood would take us
he engaged his audience
with clever witty humour
designed to test the boundaries of the time
he knew the red line and would never cross it
Ronnie Corbett the funny man
who was called to his resting place
and we smiled as we thought of the memories
